Fee / price / bill / fare/ check / tuition, tuition fees / rent / charge / rate / fine / salary.
These nouns for money are easily confused. You should
use them as follows:
1. Rent >> apartment/house
2. Bill/check
>> restaurant
3. Tuition/tuition fees >> school (Note that
“tuition” is singular, “tuition fees” plural)
4. Price >> store
5.
Fare >> transportation
6. Daily rate >> hotel/rental car
7.
Fine >> punishment
8. Salary (paycheck)>> money received for
work
The words “fee” , "cost", and “charge” are sometimes used in other
situations (for example, “application fee”).
The word "cost" is most
often used a verb, and can be used in any situation. ("How much does it
cost?")
